Salaried General Practitioner
Job summary
Harborough Field Surgery is seeking an enthusiastic, salaried GP full time or Part time position.
Currently a GMS practice, we are a consistent performer in QoF achieving a minimum of 97.45% during the last 5 years. We accept the majority of DES & LES.
We hope to support any special interests an applicant may have; and in this respect currently host medical students from Cambridge University.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will be part of a primary care health team providing general medical services and will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.
Located on the outskirts of Rushden in a purpose built medical centre which opened in 2006, the surgery boasts 9 doctors, currently serving a population of some 13,500 patients.
Clinically the doctors are supported by a Clinical Pharmacist, 3 Nurse Practitioners, 4 Treatment Room Nurses, 1 Health Care Assistant and 2 Nursing Associates. We also have access to a First Contact Physiotherapist, a Paramedic Home Visiting service, daily Paediatric Nurse clinics, a Social Prescriber and Care Coordinators for our care home residents and elderly, frail patients.
Our Practice Manager is supported by an Operations Manager and our Administrative support team includes 8 Receptionists and 7 Administrator/Secretaries. The surgery is a training practice and hosts GP Trainees and Medical Students from Cambridge University. The surgery hosts the GP Enhanced Access Service and is also a vaccination centre for East Northants.
Position to commence ASAP

NURSE PRACTITIONER
30 – 37 HOURS PER WEEK

DIABETES NURSE
16 HOURS PER WEEK
A fantastic opportunity to join a high performing GP surgery, looking to welcome a new Diabetes Nurse to the team.
We are seeking someone to work 16 hours per week, over two days, but we can be flexible with a view to offering more hours.
Previous NHS Primary Care experience is desirable. A thorough induction will be provided.

Main duties of the job
As a Diabetes Nurse working in general practice, your duty will be to provide and maintain a high standard of nursing care for patients as well as providing nursing assistance to the doctors and other members of the primary healthcare team.
To run special diabetic clinics for patients
Give patients appropriate dietary and lifestyle advice, including advice about counting carbohydrates
Development of individual patient management plans.
Assist in the formulation of appropriate diabetic protocols.
Monitor the overall practice performance in the area of diabetes.
In-depth knowledge about the use of oral hypoglycaemias and to be able to educate patients appropriately
In-depth knowledge about the use of insulin and to be confident advising patients on how to administer insulin and adjust doses
Identify high risk patients and liaise with the community diabetic team where appropriate
Awareness of how to manage diabetic emergencies and to educate patients appropriately
Providing assessment, screening and treatment services and health education advice
Provide nursing treatments to patients in participation with general practitioners or independently to agreed protocols.
Provide general and specific health screenings to the practice patients (within agreed protocols) with referral to general practitioners as necessary.
Advise patients on general health care and minor ailments with referral to GPs as necessary.
